Origin of the Lai Clan The ancestor of the Lai Clan is Shuying Gong. He is the 29th great-grandson of Emperor Xuanyuan and the 19th son of King Wen of Zhou, and also the younger brother of King Wu. At that time, due to the tyranny of King Zhou, King Wu rose up to punish the tyrant on behalf of the people. King Wu ordered Shuying Gong to lead the troops to cooperate with the feudal lords in the expedition. After the success of the war, Shuying Gong retreated to Lai in Henan Province. Considering his contributions, King Wu bestowed him the title of viscount and enfeoffed Lai as a state. Later, the Lai State was destroyed by the State of Chu. To commemorate their homeland, the descendants of the Lai State took the name of the state as their surname, which is a typical characteristic of Chinese surname culture. Subsequently, the Lai Clan continued to multiply and migrate, spreading branches and leaves in various places. --- History --- The Nanyang Lai Clan Association in Singapore was jointly initiated by Lai Dazhang, Lai Hanchu, Lai Jinkui and others in early 1931. It registered members and formulated the constitution. In the following year, the Nanyang Lai Clan Association was officially established. Then it rented a clubhouse for office work. Since then, the clan members had a formal venue for handling festive welfare matters and communication. After the establishment of the association, in 1942, the Japanese invaded the south, and Singapore and Malaysia fell one after another, causing the association's activities to come to a halt. In 1945, after Japan's defeat and the liberation of Singapore, the world was at peace. Kinship members such as Qian Sheng, De Song, and Si Yi, together with other clansmen, re-registered members, elected directors, expanded the organization, rented a clubhouse, and the association resumed activities. Scholarships were also set up and awarded to the children of members with excellent academic performance. In 1980, when the association celebrated its 50th anniversary, it invited clansmen from Hong Kong, Thailand, Taiwan, Malaysia and other regions to participate in the grand ceremony. Representatives of the three surnames from various countries proposed the establishment of the World Lai Luo Fu Clansmen Confedration , which was officially established the following year.
